As you increase the division of labor you eventually reach a point where the marginal benefit is overcome by increased costs of hand-offs and coordinating of efforts. Also, change becomes slower and harder to introduce because multiple jobs and complex processes must be redefined.

By contrast, if one person does all tasks there are zero hand-offs, no workflow coordination, no process complexity and ease of change.
