As you may know from a lifeguarding class, or even just a CPR class, you can only go so far as you are certified to do so, if you wanted to be protected by the Good Samaritan Law. A lifeguard, being said, actually has the responsibility to intervene in an emergency, and can be fired if working. So, the limitations: You cannot do a heart transplant on scene. The most you can do is preform basic first aide, save someone from drowning, with a bouyant aide or mechanism, or by jumping in and manually saving them. And then you can preform and first aide that can save a life, such as CPR, chest compressions, and backboarding for a head, neck or back injury. Don't go over yor training. Applying a C-Collar or using oxygen is not allowed, unless you have the added certification that permits you to do so. Hope this helps!!
