Biology extends to look at chemical and physical interactions within biological systems, as well as to look at 'chemicals' which are strictly speaking not alive, such as viruses and prions, as they are fundamental in some biological systems and have biological characteristics. In a more philosophical sense, biology is limited by an inverse logic: The more you break something down, the more random and downright bizarre it gets. Also if you are to take the fundamentals of life and start putting them together, the point at which life is achieved is very vague, so it is a confusing science in those senses.
