Sunday -- the day of the sun
Monday -- the day of the moon
Tuesday -- Tyr's day (Tyr was the Norse god of single combat)
Wednesday -- Woden's day, another Norse god
Thursday -- Thor's day, yet another Norse god
Friday -- Frige's day (the Norse god analogous to Venus)
Saturday -- Saturn's day -- after the Roman god.
