I own a PS3 and so far have encountered no problems with it. Sometimes the wireless range is not exactly great but that is not the problem with the PS3 just your router.
The PS3 does not include the latest WiFi or wireless n and instead has wireless G and I have found that a ethernet connection works better and have never lost a connection except when the network was down like after April 20 2011.
I also found that the PS3 can cost more than the original investment as you acquire more games and optional equipment although I have never found that the money spent for the extra games, controllers, routers, and Move bundle and controllers were not well worth the expense
