2)Lack of human resources, the North had a large draft from its many large cities, Southern cities were not as populated.
3) Lack of navy, the North had way more shipwrights and resources that ships require
4)The South lacked supplies and new weaponry, the North was technologically more advanced.
5) Most battles were fought in the South due to the brutal Northern invasion of the Shenandoah Valley in which they burned all of the towns and fields. This is also why, in the South the war is known as the war of Northern Aggression.

The biggest problem was that they lacked the manpower.
The American's didn't lose the civil war because the North states were fighting the south states over whether there should be slavery in North America or not.

They didn't. They had Reconstruction imposed on them until 1877.
The South wanted to protect and not to lose their property.
Arrogantly starting a war it was bound to lose. No wonder Sherman put the boot into South Carolina, which had started it all.
The solution to ANY war is for one side to win it and one side to lose it. In that civil war, the South lost, which unfortunately proved to be the solution.

Unless you are talking about Vietnam, the North Won! The Union, the north won, while the South confederacy lost
As the US Civil War was unfolding, it was clear that the South, a heavy favorite to lose, surprised the North in that invading and holding on the an area as big as the South was would be costly in manpower and communications.Also, there was a "military" element in the South's beliefs about a strong military. It had long before the Civil War, created quite a few military academy colleges.
