Type 1 Diabetes requires insulin to be injected. Type 1 is also not from eating a lot of unhealthy foods. Type 1 is a genetic disorder. Anyone can have it if it's in their genes or their relatives genes. Not every one who has relatives that have it get it, too. There is no cure for Type 1 at this point. The cure is expected to come in 5-20 years.

Type 2 diabetes does not require insulin shots. Type 2 diabetes is a result of eating unhealthy foods and CAN be reversed. There IS a cure/treatment. Type 2 diabetes is NOT incoded in your genes, it's just the effect of your actions.

NEITHER of these disorders are contagious.

Both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes can occur at any time in a patient's life. Type 1 diabetes is associated with a loss of insulin production in beta cells of the pancreas, such that the patient must take insulin daily in order to survive. In Type 2 diabetes, the pancreas is able to manufacture insulin, but not in amounts sufficient to manage the body's blood glucose levels. Patients with Type 2 diabetes are often treated initially with medications that are designed to either increase amounts of insulin made by the pancreas, or to make their body respond more efficiently to the insulin that is made in the pancreas. For many patients with Type 2 diabetes, weight loss can also improve this process.

Type one diabetes usually occurs in case of children. The type two diabetes usually occurs in adults. So it is called as maturity onset diabetes. Type one diabetes occurs as a immunological reaction to viral infection. Here the Beta cells from pancreas are get destructed, totally. So you have to keep the patient on insulin for life time. In case of the type two diabetes the beta cells are viable. so you can give oral drugs to manage the diabetes. Insulin can be a option but not necessary, most of the time. Some times, it is difficult to make out the difference between both types.
