The main religion of the American South is clearly Christianity, of various denominations. The Protestant denominations taken together are clearly a majority in both the South and the country as a whole. Of all denominations, Baptists are clearly dominant in most Southern states; all if you don't count Texas and Florida (and many people don't.) There are many Baptist organizations, but Southern Baptist is the most common (and also the largest denomination in the country.)
