Cents have only been minted at Philadelphia, Denver (D), and San Francisco (S).

Even though all other denominations now carry a P mint mark, cents minted at Philadelphia are still "plain"; i.e. no mint mark.

What is the value of a 1911 E US cent?

Please check your coin again and post a new, separate question. The US has never used an E mint mark. The only mint marks on cents were "S" (San Francisco) and "D" (Denver). Philadelphia cents don't carry mint marks, even today.

Is there 1943 steel cents without a mint mark?

No, the 1943 steel cents do not have a mint mark. All 1943 steel cents were produced at the Philadelphia Mint, which did not use a mint mark that year. In contrast, the 1943 copper cents, which are rare, were minted in Denver and San Francisco and carry their respective mint marks.

What is a mint mark on a 1909 Lincoln cent?

The mint mark on any coin is a letter or symbol indicating the location of the mint where the coin was struck. Not all coins have mint marks, though. 1909 Lincoln cents were struck at the mints in Philadelphia and San Francisco. Philadelphia cents didn't (and still don't) have mint marks, while San Francisco cents have a small "S" under the date.

What if there's no mint mark on a coin?

For most US coins, it means the coin was minted at Philadelphia before 1980, when the P mint mark was adopted. Cents minted at Philadelphia and West Point don't have mint marks, and all coins dated 1965 through 1967 don't have mint marks regardless of where they were produced.

Where is the mint stamp on a penny?

If you are referring to UK pennies, then most have no mint mark as they are produced at the Royal Mint. However, mint marks since the 1870's are either an H under the date or an H or KN to the left of the date. However, I suspect you might be referring to US cents. In this case you will find the mintmark under the date, unless it is the Philadelphia Mint which does not place mint marks on cents, although "P" has appeared on all other denominations since 1980.

How many pennies were made in 1971?

Did the US Mint put mint marks on every coin?

No. In fact, there are no mint marks on coins made in Philadelphia prior to 1979, except for the famous "war nickels" issued from 1942 to 1945. The first US mint marks were used in 1838 when branch mints were opened in New Orleans, Dahlonega, and Charlotte. During the changeover from silver to clad coinage mint marks weren't used on any coins dated 1965-67. Starting in 1979, $1 coins gained the P mint mark. The following year all other Philadelphia coins except for cents also began using the P mint mark. Philadelphia cents continue to be struck without mint marks, for complex reasons having to do with special production at other mints when Philadelphia and Denver can't meet the demand for pennies.

Where is the mint mark on an 1798 US large cent?

All large cents were minted in Philadelphia, so they don't carry mint marks. The first cent to have a mint mark was the 1908 Indian Head penny made in San Francisco.

Where are US cents minted?

Currently (2015) circulating US cents are produced by the Philadelphia and Denver mints, while collectors' versions are made in San Francisco. The mint mark position is under the date: > No mint mark = Philadelphia > D = Denver > S = San Francisco San Francisco also struck cents for circulation from 1908 to 1955 and from 1968 to 1974. During times of high demand the West Point Mint has made circulation cents as well but these don't carry mint marks and are indistinguishable from their Philadelphia cousins.

What does it mean when a US coin doesn't have a mint mark?

It means the coin was struck in Philadelphia before the P mint mark was adopted, or that it's a cent struck at Philadelphia or West Point. Cents from those 2 mints do not carry mint marks. Also, all coins dated 1965-67 don't have mint marks, regardless of where they were struck.
