What are the other names in medicine for the alimentary canal?
The alimentary canal consists of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. In adults, the alimentary canal is about 30 feet long. Other names for the alimentary canal include the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, digestive tract, alimentary tract, and nourishment canal.
The parts of the digestive system include the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus. Additional organs that aid in digestion but are not part of the digestive tract include the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.
