What are plate boundary settings?

There are three main plate boundaries, convergent plate boundaries, divergent plate boundaries and transform fault boundaries. Convergent plate boundaries are when the plates collide together, this often causes mountain building. Divergent plate boundaries are when plates are moving apart, this is what caused the Mid Atlantic Ridges. Transform Fault Boundaries is when they move past each other horizontally, this boundary dosent cause any new landforms.

What is a convergent boundary with its characteristic?

Convergent boundaries are formed when two plates on the earth's surface collide. This may cause one of three things to happen. One, one plate will be forced under the other causing a trench and creating mountain ranges, two, the two plates will crumple together like an accordion and pus up forming mountain ranges like the Himalayas, and three the may remain stationary possibly causing earthquakes and increasing the pressure of the lithosphere. So convergent plate boundaries regularly result in mountains and ocean trenches. The areas around convergent boundaries are often subject to increased levels of seismic activity do to the friction and pressure caused by the boundary

What mountain ranges are created by tectonic plates?

Convergent; the Cascade Range is a volcano/mountain, which is caused from a convergent plate boundary I had the same question for my homework...

Are most volcanoes on land caused by the earths plates moving away from each other or moving toward each other?

all volcanoes are caused by the earths plates moving toward each other and that is called convergent boundaries.

Why are divergent boundaries considered constructive while convergent boundaries are considered destructive?

At a constructive (divergent) plate boundary, new crust is being created to infill the gaps caused by spreading plates. At a destructive (subduction-convergent) plate boundary, old, dense oceanic crust is diving into, and becoming part of the mantle.

What caused the Andes mountains to form?

They were formed by deposition and by convergent boundaries

What causes different kinds of volcanic mountains?

it can be caused by many things, such as hot spots, convergent plate boundaries, and divergent plate boundaries

Which type of disaster is caused by convergent plate movement?

The most common natural disasters that are a direct result of convergent boundaries and their shifts are earthquakes.

How were the Andes mountains range the Himalayas and the island of japan formed differently?

The Andes mountains and the islands of Japan are both formed by subduction zones which was caused by volcanoes. The Himalayas were formed by convergent plate boundaries but no subduction zone. Instead the plates collided and there was uplift causing the mountains.

What has caused the growth of the Himalayan Mountains north of India?

convergent plate boundary

What is Convergent Volcanism?

Convergent volcanoes are found on or near convergent boundaries. They are caused as a result of pressure, friction, and plate material melting in the mantle.

What is the process that causes and earthquake?

Earthquakes are caused by transform faults and when stress overcomes friction. volcanoes are caused by convergent boundaries, the process of convergent boundaries is when two plates come in contact with each other. ex. for volcano is a oceanic plate sub ducts under a continental plate.

Where are mountains mostly found?

Mountains are mostly found in areas where tectonic plates meet, such as along convergent plate boundaries or at hot spots where magma rises to form volcanic mountains. They can also be found in regions with uplift caused by tectonic activity, such as the Himalayas due to the collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates.
