Robert Louis Stevenson's great novel, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde would be first and foremost , but two novels,The Lodger by Marie Belloc Lowndes and Hangover Square,a 1941 novel by English novelist Patrick Hamilton,, were two classic thrillers scripted for the screen. Ironically both starred Laird Cregar. Another that comes to mind is Ethel Lina White's novel Some Must Watch( film was titled The Spiral Staircase). There are many others, but these stand out at this time.

"The Picture of Dorian Gray" is Oscar Wilde's only published novel because Wilde is better known for his plays, poetry, and essays. While the novel was well-received, Wilde gained more recognition for his other works, such as "The Importance of Being Earnest" and "The Happy Prince."
