There are actually a lot of symptoms of old age. If the hamster's fur is changing color, cataracts are showing in their eyes, or they seem to get more crabby or aggressive it's possible that old age is the reason. Keep in mind when self-diagnosing your hamster, however, that they live only for a few years. Five at the most. If a younger hamster is experiencing these symptoms, I would contact your local small animal vet.
