you can be good at finding information or clues

Added: There is much general misunderstanding of just what a Crime Scene Investigator is and what they do.

REAL LIFE: They do NOT operate like the ones seen on popular TV shows (i.e.: investigate the crime scene AND THEN go out and find an arrest the perpetrator). They are specialized technicians who "process" a crime scene for evidence, and either process it themselves or turn it over to a forensics lab - PERIOD. Then they go on to their next assignment and do the same thing all over again, and again, and again. Although it makes for exciting TV shows there are too few of them to go around to conduct their own investigations. The results of the evidence they collect is turned over to the Investigative Branch (Detective Division) and the criminal investigators assigned there actually conduct the investigations that will subsequently (hopefully) result in an arrest and conviction.

Also: Depending on the agency, Crime Scene Investigators could be sworn law enforcement officers who have received specialized training in that specialty - in which case they have the chance for advancement by rising through the ranks of their department. In agencies which employ civilians in that capacity, their advancement ladder could include possibly becoming a supervisor of other Crime Scene Techs or by receiving periodic raises in pay as they get more skill and seniority.
