Different words are often used to describe the various styles and types of clothing worn by Muslims throughout the world. Often, the same type of clothing has many different names depending on regional language or terminology.

The Hijab is the traditional headscarf worn by many Muslim women and girls.

Niqab is the face veil worn by some Muslim women which may or may not leave the eyes uncovered. The Burqa is a type of veil and body covering conceals all of a woman's body including the eyes, which are covered with a mesh screen.

Common in the Arab Gulf countries, a cloak for women which is worn over other clothing when in public. The abaya is usually made of black synthetic fiber, sometimes decorated with colored embroidery or sequins. The abaya may be worn from the top of the head to the ground , or over the shoulders. It may be combined with a head scarf or face veil.

The outfit that Muslim women wear is called as Burqaa or Ridaa. This is specifically designed dress for women so that nothing except the hands, face and foot are visible to others. It has been designed according to the Qur'an and Shari'at according to which women are not allowed to show off their physical beauty to other men who are "Ghair Mehram" for her. Ghair Mehram means the ones with whom a woman can get married. The dress code of the Muslim women have been targeted as the one restricting the freedom of the women, but contrary to the claims of the secularists and so called Freedom preachers, the tradition has continued and will continue further unabated. The dress code of the Muslim women have now a days become a fashion statement as more and more Muslim women have started serviing the companies and they never hesitate to wear the Ridaa at their work place.
