A soul doesnt have the ability to go back and forth between time on it's own accord. However, the reason people remember past lives is because the soul simply keeps on going. So when one remembers one of their past lives, it's simply that - the past. They don't remember there future lives, however they also don't know where the soul lingers between lives. They simply continue and become aware again when they are brought forth into the world in their new body.
