What are the points that evereybody is talking about in band of brothers?

The 9th episode of Band of Brothers was called "Points". Late in the war, the Army devised a system that would determine which soldiers deserved to go home first. This points system was Advanced Service Rating Score. Each soldier was awarded points based on several factors: Number of Months in Service, Number of months overseas, Medals, and number of children. When Germany surrendered, they set 85 as the number of points required to go home. If you had less, then you would have to continue in service. This was a good idea in a way but as it turned out many of the front-line troops had the lest time in service because of the high casualty rate. The soldiers with longer time in service were those in the Quartermaster and those who worked behind the lines. This didn't seem fair. The total points was lowered a few months later. After Japan surrendered, the Points System was needed but it was used to determine who went home first. At the bottom box of a Veteran's Discharge Papers, it will have an entry for the Points with something like "ASR 91". See link to my website. It gives details of how the points were calculated.
