There are no prerequisites to attend a CNA program. You do have to pass a competency test and at least seventy five hours of training in basic health care, health law and medical ethics or whichever your state requires. You must also pass a state test to receive certification.

There aren't any educational prerequisites needed before enrolling in a CNA program. However the individual should physically be able to complete duties required during the course. Also many hiring facilties require a background check. Being able to pass this check will result in getting hired for employment.

I would like to work as a nursing assistant while attending a Certified Nursing Assistant program. Will an employer hire me if Im attending school to become certified?

You must be licensed as a CNA to work as a CNA. While in school, an employer might let you do work in an administrative area, help in the kitchen or laundry, etc. But in order to be involved in patient care, you must first finish the CNA program. You cannot work as a nursing assistant or in any other capacity in patient care until you are trained, certified and licensed to do so. While you are taking your CNA training, consider taking a job as a receptionist, in admin, in the laundry or in the kitchen. No matter what area you work in, you'll pick up lots of information about patient care that will be of value in your CNA training and once you start working.
