There are two principal airports in Turkey:

1- Ataturk International Airport (IST) is located approximately 25 km (15 miles) west of the city center on the European side of the Sea of Marmara.

2- Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW), on the Asian side of the city, was named after Sabiha Gökçen who was the first female fighter pilot in the world. This airport serves many domestic and international low-fare flights. It is located a distance of 40 km to Kadikoy, 12 km to Pendik and 50 km to Taksim on the European side. If you are planning to arrive in Sabiha Gokcen Airport, do your homework as it be time consuming to get to Sultanahmet and Taksim areas.
