The Pros And Cons Of Getting Rid Of Your Home Phone Service?

As cell phone use becomes more widespread, many families are considering getting rid of their traditional home phone service. Before you make this move, however, you should consider the pros and cons. Here are some issues you should consider before you make your final decision. Cell Phones Can Be Complicated If there are elderly members of your family, you might be concerned that they will have difficulty trying to learn how to use a cell phone. There are special cell phones sold to elderly individuals who only want the basic functions of a phone. Additionally, some of the smart phones that are being made today are extremely intuitive. Most individuals have no problem learning how to use these. Landlines Are Less Expensive Than Ever Before While cell phone package prices continue to rise, the price of using a land line continues to fall. Many companies now bundle home phone service with cable or internet packages. Landlines are generally speaking much cheaper than a cell phone plan. Cell Phones Can Cause Conflict If you have a teenager or pre-teen, it can be difficult to enforce limits on cell phone use. Teens love to text, and unless you have an unlimited texting plan, this can be quite expensive. However, when your teens have a cell phone, you will be able to get into contact with them if there is ever an emergency. This can be reassuring to a parent. Constant Contact Can Be Tiring When you have a land line, you have more control over your level of contact with friends and family. Many people get their cell phones and then feel overwhelmed by the amount of text messages and calls that they receive. They feel compelled to answer their cell phone even when they are tired or busy. However, you can learn to ignore the occasional call without feeling guilty. It might take you some time to adjust, but you and your family will eventually get used to using cell phones. If you keep these issues in mind, you will be able to decide whether or not getting rid of your home phone service would be a good idea for you family.
