Some pros of using tax preparation software include being able to complete your tax forms quickly and on your own time (versus the busy schedule of a tax preparer), and it is often cheaper than hiring a professional tax preparer. However, software is best for standard, basic tax filing. Should there be a unique situation with your taxes, you run the risk of not getting a correct return. Worse, should you be audited, you would have no assistance, whereas a qualified tax preparer would offer such.
