The biggest con is the risk of forgetting the password and not being able to do anything with the file. There is no way of breaking the password to open it if the password is forgotten. If a password is just being used to protect some cells there is the risk of not having the correct ones protected or leaving ones that should be protected as unprotected.

∙ 9y agoYou can keep your entire workbook private. You can prevent people changing data in some cells. You can be fairly sure that it is locked and that no one can make changes if they do not have the password.
