The prevailing theory is that the pyramids were built as tombs (resting places or graves) for the Pharaohs. They are vast pyramid-shaped constructions consisting of large stone blocks, each weighing between two and three tons, with numerous internal passages and artefacts.

There is much evidence to suggest that the pyramids may be much, much older than the Pharaohs, but this is often dismissed out of hand by most Egyptologists who wish to preserve historical legacy. Those who have studied the evidence cannot fail to agree that it is compelling, but who wants to rock the boat?
