Answer Maybe because it is out of their "comfort zone". They do not know how to behave around handicapped people or victims of some act or illness so they avoid them alltogether. What people need to realize is that everyone wants to be treated the same. That is, they don't want to be treated differently just because they are a victim of some act or they are handicapped in some way.
