The reactants when methane burns in oxygen are methane and oxygen.

The products are CO2, water and heat about 890 Kj/mole is given out.

The equation is : CH4(g) + 2O2 _______> CO2 + 2H2O + Heat (-890 Kj/mole)

When one mole of methane gas reacts with (burns in) 2 moles of oxygen gas we get 1 mole of carbon dioxide and 2 moles of water and 890 Kilo joules of heat is released.

This reaction is exothermic as heat is released and a combustion reaction as methane gas is burned in free supply oxygen not limited supply otherwise carbon monoxide (CO) will be formed.

Hope that helped you out. :-D

Methane oxygen carbon dioxide water?

methane and oxygen react together (combustion) to give carbon dioxide + water. The reactants are methane and oxygen which react to form the products water and carbon dioxide.

CO2 H2O carbon particulates and carbon monoxide are released into the air as methane burns How would the total number of atoms in the reactants compare to the total number of atoms in the product?

When methane burns completely no carbon monoxide (CO) would be produced. In complete combustion the balanced equation for the burning of methane would be:CH4 (methane) + 2O2 (oxygen) -> CO2(carbon dioxide) + 2H2O (water)i.e. the total number of each atom in the reactants would be identical to the total number of each atom in the products.

When methane burns carbon dioxide and water are formed The mass of carbon dioxide plus the mass of water equal the mass of the methane plus the mass of OXYGEN?

When methane burns, the carbon dioxide and water formed, equal the mass of the methane plus the mass of the oxygen.

When methane burns in the presesnce of insufficient oxygen the product of the reaction include carbon monoixde?

Yes, the products of CH4 + O2 (Methane + Insufficient Oxygen) are water and carbon monoxide.

Does the hydrogen on methane go when it becomes carbon dioxide?

Methane burns in oxygen and gets oxidised. Carbon is oxidised to carbon dioxide, hydrogen to water.

When methane burns in air the bonds in methane molecules and oxygen molecules are broken?

Yes; the reaction is: CH4 + 2 O2 = CO2 + 2 H2O
