Coach, played by Nicholas Colasanto, died during the third season of "Cheers." His character's death was addressed in the show's storyline, with the character's passing occurring off-screen. The series paid tribute to Coach, and his absence was felt by the remaining characters in subsequent episodes.
He died in after the third season ended on cheers. It was a big lost for Cheers so they brought in Woody Boyd. The magic clicked and they used Woody throughout the entire show. He died in 1985 I believe.
