In Greek times they believed that souls went to the underworld
The body sleeps. The soul is in heaven or hell waiting for the resurrection. The souls in heaven will have eternal life. The souls in hell have eternal death.

it's sort of a job to the souls, like for example: "my calling is to be a healer" but there are few callings; healer, seeker and teacher are the only ones i can remember; a healer is (duh) a soul that heals the host bodies that the souls take over, and a seeker is a soul that searches for host bodies, as for a teacher (i think it's called a teacher) they are the ones who educate the new souls about the planets, each teacher tells about the planet they've been on; wanderer was on nine planets and she was the most demanded teacher
Death doesn't explain. He only says that "he takes the souls". He never says where they go.
Souls in Pawn - 1940 was released on: USA: December 1940
I don't believe there is a set antagionist. Virtualy all souls are antagonists, but if I had to choose a single antagionist, I'd say her Seeker ( although in the begining I suppose you could concider Kyle an antagonist, but in the end he is no longer one )
