Shays' Rebellion was an example of a failure. The farmers were in revolt, but the state was not strong enough to get it under control. Under the articles, the federal government did not have the authority to step in and help the state. The Constitution came about, in part, to give the states a stronger federal backing.
The Whiskey Rebellion was a tax rebellion that happened in the colonial United States. It changed the way the government handled protesters as they started to use military suppression.
The states that were in secession; formed the Confederate States of America. Those states that did not, stayed with the Union. West Virgina broke off from Virginia and stayed with the Union and became a state. It was very simple. Either a state was with the CSA or the Union.
