Are shelby foote and horton foote related?

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1058/is_n6_v114/ai_19174185; (viewed 24 October 2005): EVERYONE WANTS to know if 81-year-old Horton Foote is related to Shelby Foote, the gravel-voiced historian who graced Ken Burns's television series on the Civil War. So when I had the chance to visit with Foote I asked him about it. Yes, he answered, the two Footes are third cousins; their great-grandfathers were brothers. "And while we didn't grow up together, we have become friends; I was the voice of Jefferson Davis in that TV series," he added proudly.

What US Civil War battle gave Robert E Lee the chance to lead the Army of Northern Virginia?

I believe it was during the Seven Days battles on the James peninsular. Joseph E Johnston was wounded and Robert E Lee (then GoC the Commonwealth of Virginia's military forces and President Davis primary military advisor was placed in charge whilst Joseph E Johnston was relieved on medical grounds I believe he received a shrapnel wound from a Union artillery shell at Seven Pines. (Please Note; when I answer these questions I don't look up the answers (hence the lack of dates) I just use my knowledge of the Civil War gleaned from various sources but too whoever is posting all these US civil war questions I suggest Battles and Leaders of the War of Civil War which was written in the late 18th century, early 19th and is usually written by primary sources, ie; General officers and other actual participants in the subject at question. If this proves too heavy then I cannot recomend Shelby Footes Narative History of the American Civil War in three volumes enoughwhich is not only a pleasure to read but I believe it stands as a superb piece of historical scholarship presented as a narative which makes it extremely easy to read and enjoy. It is as exciting as any novel and reads like one yrt is from my personal experience very accurate if possibly somewhat partisan towards a particular side. Yee Haa
