In North Carolina you're in luck, in terms of the the requirements. In general, with the exception of private schools who set their own requirements, you should be fine with just a two year degree.

There are requirements which can be different in each US state. Charter schools are public schools, but teaching in one does NOT require a teaching certification in NY - but does require a bachelor degree. Anyone with any bachelor degree can substitute teach in NY.
