Requirements of a Congressman

A Representative to the House must at least 25 years old .have been a US citizen for 7 years and live in the district which they represent.

A Senator must 30 years old, have been a US citizen for 9 years and be an inhabitant of the state which they represent.

Duties of congress

1. To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises. 2. To regulate Commerce. 3. To establish Laws regulating the affairs of the nation. 4. To coin Money. 5. To establish Post Offices and post Roads. 6. To declare War.

Number of Congressman

There are 535 voting Members of Congress, the House of Representatives' membership of 435 plus the Senate membership of 100. Members of the House of Representatives serve two-year terms representing the people of a district. Congressional districts are apportioned to states by population using the United States Census results, each state in the union having at least one representative in the House of Representatives. Regardless of population, each of the 50 states has 2 senators. The 100 senators each serve a six-year term.
