LASIK eye surgery is one of the most often performed and most successful procedures done in the world today. The most important thing is to go to a reputable Doctor Who will only perform the procedure if it is likely to be successful in your case. With this caveat, LASIK is almost always successful. The results with modern lasers is that virtually all patients achieve a minimum of 20/40 vision which is what most States in the USA require to drive without corrective lenses. In addition, well into the 90%+ achieve 20/20 vision which is quite satisfactory to most patients. A small number of patients require re-treatments, or "touch-ups" to obtain their best results. In addition, some patients will have changes in their vision years later but this will almost always still leave them with much better vision than they had originally.

There are other issues to consider such as increased dry eye symptoms which usually are temporary, or fluctuations in vision, glare or starburst. Fortunately most patients do not have significant problems, but it is important to be aware of all risks and to followup with your local doctor for any questions regarding risks.

For some patients, other options are better including PRK or surface treatment, or in some cases a lens implant.
