The Colosseum was an amphitheatre. Amphitheatres were for just one attraction. They were arenas for the gladiatorial games. These games lasted the whole day or several days. They included a range of entertainments. The gladiatorial combats were the highlight. The schedule of the day, which started at 8 am and ended at dusk was:
