Christianity is different from other religions in that there is not a series of steps or a precise list of things that must be done in order to get to Heaven.
However, you must believe in Jesus, that he is the son of God, and that he died as a sacrifice to atone for the sins of the world, and rose again on the third day. (John 3:16)
As far as Christian living goes, it is impossible to "prove" yourself to God; the only way to be saved is to believe in Jesus (Romans 3: 22-23).
Christianity does emphasize, however, love. It doesn't matter what else you can do, without love it means nothing. Love God above all things, and love your neighbors as yourself. (Mark 12:30-31). Humility is also very important, although it is a life-long process to become humble.
Christianity is very much a journey. Yes, there are things that The Bible says about marriage, morality, charity, ect, but its something that you learn as you grow with Christ. Christianity is far more of a way of life than a rule book. It's a way of life where Jesus himself warns that there will be hardship, and in those times, we turn to God and get closer to him. If you look at Jesus' life and follow his way of living, (resisting temptation, standing up for truth, whatever the cost, doing good to others, ect) it is a pretty clear guide of how God wants us to live. For more on Jesus' life, I would suggest reading any of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) or for the apostles' lives and how they lived according to Jesus' word, you could read Acts

There are rules as to how to nourish your life with Sacred Scripture. There are rules for the inclusion of Sacred Scripture in all of life, and rules for the reading of Sacred Scripture, which ones are you asking about?
