1. Take your medication(s) as prescribed
2. Take all your medications
3. Do not have oral, anal, or vaginal sex, or share sex toys, until seven days after single-dose treatment or until seven-day treatment is complete. Don't even do these things with a condom, as reinfection is common.
Depending on the medication used, there are other recommendations as well. Azithromycin and doxycycline shouldn't be taken with certain other medications. Doxycycline should be taken with food, but not with dairy. Patients on doxycycline should wear long sleeves and a hat in the sun. Be sure to check with your health care provider or pharmacist to understand restrictions specific to your treatment regimen.
There are no 'rules' this is something that you and your partner will have to work out for yourselves.
