Toycie seems to be very childish,she cannot deal with difficult situations. This quality about her caused her madness. Beka, however, is on the verge to maturity, she learns how to endure these sort of situations and how to pull lessons out of them.
They both are hard-working as Toycie does many hosehold chores and Beka works assiduously for the essay contest prize.
