infrared is one of therays emited by the sun. If it is not there the temperature would drop by 30 centegrades. red light is visible but does not provide heat. Infrared radiation has a slightly longer wavelength than visible light. The name "infrared" means less than red, and it is just beyond visible red light, on the spectrum. The wavelength is longer, but the frequency is lower, which is where the "less than" comes from. It is also less energetic. The energy content of electromagnetic radiation is directly proportional to the frequency.

Well They are both caused by highly energetic electromagnetic waves . Secondly they are both very harmful to living matter. that's all from me

I THINK IT IS Wrong they are alike cause these are eletromagnetic radiation but they both are not harmfull just ultra voilet are harmfull i-e laser, x-ray. but infra red are not harmfull i-e microfones , ovens and etc.

Visible light and infrared are both electromagnetic radiation (or waves).Heat energy MAY be transferred in the form of electromagnetic radiation - but it can also be transported via conduction or convection - and it may just "be there", without being transported at all.

About the only thing they all have in common is that they are different types of energy.
