There are six (6) stages of the data processing cycle:data collectiondata preparationdata inputdata processingdata storagedata output
There are four main stages of food processing. These include ingestion and propulsion, digestion, absorption of nutrients, as well as egestion.

A program has three stages: input, processing and output. Input brings data into the program, processing causes whatever manipulations the program will do to occur, and output presents the manipulated data to the user. Given that, only in batch-processing programs (like the databases that do billing for phone companies) will you see a discrete "processing" stage. Programs you interact with do all three stages simultaneously.
