There are no truly defined "steps" in drug addiction. If you try a certain drug, you may become addicted to THAT drug and may not necessarily move to more harmful drugs. It may also vary depending on the drug. For example, if you start with alcohol as a teenager you may become a drinker, or maybe even an alcoholic, for the rest of your life. If you start with marijuana, you may not become "addicted" per say, but you may become a regular user of the drug. Always remember to use common sense and not do anything dangerous, addictive or stupid. Good luck.
Depends upon the addiction and the chosen path of recovery.
All paths have in common a first step, though, which is the recognition of a need to change behavior because of the negative effects of existing behavior usually associated with the object of addiction.
You first have to admit that you have a problem and are trying to help yourself. Amitting is good not just for you but for your love onesw because they can help you do better in life and give you a better one. Another step is working over it. I know that at first it will be hard but if you really want to better yourself you will go all the way.
The steps to recover from a drug addiction include 12 codified steps. The first step to end addiction involves recognizing that you have a problem. The next is healing-- healing includes multiple steps. This culminates with vigilance and constant recognition of one's addiction.

many steps have worn a path in the grass
Addiction is addiction. While some addictions are more deadly, all addictions have the potential to ruin lives if untreated. Ultimately, a food addition is no less dangerous than an addiction to methamphetamines. It doesn't matter if the addiction is to prescription drugs, alcohol, porn, sex, shopping, food, cocaine and a host of other possibilities. All addiction follows the same route, and cross-addiction is the rule, not the exception. 12-Steps programs, for example, all use the same 12 steps, and substitute "food" or "cocaine" in the place where "alcohol" was first written.
That is a good question, but if there were an answer that applied to everyone there would be no more addiction. However, whatever the addiction is, there are some basic steps you can take: 1) remove yourself entirely from any situation that might lead you to the addiction 2) substitute the addiction with something harmless like jogging, watching tv, etc. It's hard to be more specific without knowing what the addiction is.
Assuming that the addiction is something bad one wishes to rehabilitate himself from you could read about the 12 steps and it's history at http://www.12step.com/history.html
