Anorexia is a very serious eating disorder which could easily lead to heart or kidney failure. GET HELP NOW!!! Most individuals with anorexia nervosa refuse to recognize (deny) that they have an eating disorder. Symptoms may include: * Weight loss of 15% or greater below the expected weight * Inappropriate use of laxatives, enemas, or diuretics (water pills) in an effort to lose weight * Self-imposed food intake restrictions, often hidden * No menstruation * Skeletal muscle atrophy * Loss of fatty tissue * Low blood pressure * Dental cavities due to self-induced vomiting * Blotchy or yellow skin * Depression

Some signs / Symptoms of anorexia are... *Weight loss *Refusal to eat *Dry / flaky skin *Hair loss, discoloration, thinning, and/or loss of "shine" *Fainting *Dizziness *Sensitivity to the cold *Constant / intense exercising *Organ problems / failure *Low heart rate / blood pressure *Depression *Odd habits or food rituals *Only eating low-cal, "safe" foods *Constantly weighing themselves *Dressing in layers ot hide weight loss *Isolating themselves more / becoming more secretive around others *Growth of thin, "peach fuzz" hair, called lanugo Note - These are only a few signs and symptoms. Those who suffer from anorexia may experience some or all of these factors. Certain ones can come and go, while others may never appear at all in a ceratin indiviual. Also, just because a person exhibits one or more of the signs, it doen not always mean that that person specifically has anorexia.
You should start to observe their eating habits, if they start to become strange or non-existent, they may be anorexic. You should not outright ask them for they may become defensive, but quietly notice if they act differently around food and excessive amount of exercise.
There are no "withdrawl" symptoms of anorexia. It is not a drug. There are symptoms that go with recovery, though. These can include mood swings, depression, isolation, and other struggles.

Anorexia is not very well studied in animals, as it often does not occur in animals. It is almost solely affecting people.

Not that I'm aware of. Anorexia is a mental health condition, and there is no medicinal cure. Sometimes anti-depressants can help with symptoms of depression, but that's not really a cure. One of the best treatments for anorexia is psychotherapy.
