If I had to guess about the rice vs. chicken, the most likely source was under-cooked chicken. The time period between consumption and onset of symptoms is consistent with Salmonella infection, a food borne infectious agent found commonly in poultry dishes. The typical onset of gastrointestinal symptoms in Salmonella infections is 6-48 hours after eating.E. Coli would be a secondary guess (also perhaps in the chicken), however the onset of symptoms from E. Coli is usually 24 to 48 hours after ingestion. On the lighter side:From the bit of evidence you have provided, I'd be inclined to think it was YOU who got contaminated. I hope everything came out okay.

"My Brother's Peculiar Chicken" is about two brothers who argue over a chicken that they have found. They cannot determine whether it is a hen or a rooster and agree to disagree. After trying to get their parents and their townspeople to determine if the chicken is male or female, the brothers decide to enter the chicken into a fight. The opponent doesn't fight but instead does some sort of love dance and the peculiar chicken kills it. Thinking that they're finally convinced that the chicken is a rooster but then it begins to quiver and act weird before laying an egg in the hand of one of the brothers.
