France lost its territories in India and North America primarily as a result of the Seven Years' War (1756-1763). This global conflict pitted France against Britain and led to significant territorial losses for France, particularly through the Treaty of Paris in 1763. As a consequence, France ceded Canada and various territories in North America to Britain, while in India, it lost its influence to the British East India Company.
