Active Volcanoes - Those volanoes which has erupted in the recent history and will continue to erupt further is known as an active volcano. Dormant Volcanoes - Those volcanoes which hasn't erupted in the recent past but has the capability of erupting in the future. These volcanoes generally erupt after long intervals of time. Extinct Volcanoes - These volcanoes used to erupt but hasn't erupted in the recent past and will probably not erupt further. There are actually only 3 types of volcanos, while one can be called two things. The first kind is called shield, it is almost shaped like an upside down bowl. The second is called a cinder cone, it's sides are a little more steep and instead of squirting out just lava, its squirts out pyroclastic material also and it has moderately explosive eruptions. The last is known as a composite or a stratovolcano, with quite steep sides.
The three main types of volcano are shield volcano, cinder cone volcano and composite volcano.

Shield Volcano
Stratovolcan
shield, composite and cinder cone
It is not a composite volcano or a cinder cone volcano... it's not even a shield volcano so it is NOT one of the three main volcanoes
I really need to know what are the three main types of volcanoes??? A:the three main types of volcanoes are: active volcanoes dormant volcanoes extinct volcanoes -shiv kumar.v
Three parts of a volcano are the base, the flank, and the vent. Some additional parts include the sill, the crater, the summit, and the cone.
North Sister is a shield volcano while Middle and South Sister are stratovolcanoes.

Aconcagua in Argentina is a mountain, however it is not a volcano. The three peaks of Kilimanjaro in Tanganyika make up a dormant volcano.
The Rinjani Volcano is a composite type of volcano. AKA the strato volcano. I hope this helped...
The main parts of a volcano is the crater, main vent, magma chamber, and pipe.
