The third one mentioned in Matthew is the temptation to gain power by paying the devil homage. The other gospels do not list them in any particular order of chronology.

Matthew 4:

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

The second temptation Jesus faced in the desert is written in Matthew 4:5-7. In the New International Version, it reads: "Then the devil took Him to the holy city and had Him stand on the highest point of the temple. 'If You are the Son of God,' he said, 'throw Yourself down. For it is written: "He will command His angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.*"'

Jesus answered him, 'It is also written: "Do not put the Lord your God to the test.**"'"

*Psalm 91:11-12

**Deuteronomy 6:16

The temptation of Christ is recorded in The Bible in the books of Matthew, Mark and Luke. After Jesus had been baptised, he then fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. During Jesus' fasting The Devil (Satan) came up to him to tempt him.

  • Satan said to Jesus' to turn the stones into bread so he would not get hungry. Jesus said "It is written 'one does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth the mouth of God'"
  • Satan took Jesus up to a cliff (in Jerusalem) and told him to jump off. He said that's the angles would surely catch him to break his fall. Jesus replied "Again it is written, 'You shall not put the lord, your God, to the test."
  • Satan says for Jesus to worship him and he will deliver all the Kindoms to him. Jesus replies "Get away, Satan! It is written: 'The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve."

This story was told to me to convey to meaning to use the bible to reply, as Jesus does here. As the Bible is also known as "The Sword" in the Armor of God.

If you are referring to the Devil's attempts to get Jesus to sin after 40 days without food, they are:
(1) hunger--a taunt to turn stones into bread/ to work a miracle in His own behalf

(2) testing God the Father--a taunt to jump off the temple and have the Lord intervene to save Him; and

(3) a bribe--worship the devil and the devil would give Him the kingdoms of the world.

Beyond that, the New Testament of the standard Christian Bible is full of accounts where Jesus was tempted in the manner that all humans are.
