South China, Bengal, Siberian, Indo Chinese, Malayan, Sumatran. The South China subspecies may be extinct in the wild, but plans are to reintroduce captive born South China tigers into their native haunts.
Yes. In fact, there have been instances where one subspecies has a range that brushes against another, and tigers with characteristics of both subspecies have been noted. Most notably, Faze' mentions a ten foot two inch male tiger from Myomar that appeared to be an Indo Chinese tiger, yet had wider stripes, and was quite a bit larger than males of this subspecies, which average nine feet in length and around 400-420 pounds, somewhat less than the Bengal. Only a mountain range separates the two subspecies, and this cat was almost certainly a hybrid. In captivity, it is not unusual to see tiger hybrids, especially Siberian / Bengal ones.
The Sumatran tiger is the smallest of the sub-species of tigers. Males only weigh around 300 pounds.
