There are many treatments available for MS, but it depends on the type of MS you have and how advanced it is that will determine the treatment options available to you. Medication There are medications available which will slow the disease progress and reduce disease activity, as well as reducing the duration and severity of relapses when they do occur. Some of those FDA-approved medications: * Avonex * Betaseron * Copaxone * Revbif * Novantrone * Tysabri Relapses Exacerbations (or relapses) are acute flare-ups of MS symptoms, or new symptoms. In order to be considered an exacerbation, it usually has to last longer than 24 hours and be separated from a previous exacerbation by 30 days. Most relapses last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. They can be mild, or severe enough to interfere with normal abilities. Exacerbations are usually treated with high-dose corticosteroids to control inflammation.
