Blood pressure is the amount of blood per section of your blood vessels. You have two different readings because blood pressure varies; for example, your blood pressure is higher after heavy exercise due to the fact that your heart is pumping blood faster.

One number (usually written on top, and is also normally larger) is the positive pressure created by your heart pushing blood through the arteries; usually called the systolic pressure. The second (on bottom and smaller) is the negative pressure caused by the heart pulling blood back through the veins; this is called the diastolic pressure.

The 1st and highest number is called the systolic. The 2nd and lowest number is called the diastolic. It is measured in mmHG.

The two levels of blood pressure can be measured from a doctors office or one of those machines at a store. They are measure by how your blood flows while taking it.

Why blood pressure is expressed with two number?

When a blood vessel (like an elastic pipe) is empty there is no pressure on its wall. When there is blood flowing in a blood vessel it exerts pressure on the walls of the blood vessel (pipe). This is the basal pressure called the Diastolic pressure (The lower of the two numbers). When the heart pumps blood it drives the blood with force and this exerts higher pressure on the walls of the blood vessel. This is called the Systolic pressure, the higher number in the blood pressure measurement. Thus, Blood Pressure of 120/70 means the systolic pressure is 120 and the diastolic pressure is 70.

How blood pressure works?

A blood pressure machine works by measuring the blood vessel walls as the blood pushes against them. There are two numbers that the machine measures, the rate at which the heart contracts, and the rate at which it relaxes. These are labeled as a fraction, the former over the latter.

What do the two number in the blood pressure mean?

Blood pressure is pressure exerted by blood on the walls of blood vessels. The two numbers represent the systolic and diastolic pressure. Systolic pressure is the pressure exerted during ventricular contraction(also called systole) and diastolic pressure is the pressure exerted during ventricular relaxation(also called diastole). The units of blood pressure are millimeters of Mercury (mmHg) because it represents how far up a tube the pressure can push a column of mercury, which was how pressure used to be measured.

What does the high number of blood pressure stand for?

The larger of the two numbers in a blood pressure reading is the "systolic" reading. The lower number is the "diastolic." The systolic reading measures how hard the heart pumps when it contracts; whereas the diastolic reads the pressure when the heart relaxes.

What is your blood pressure?

It is a measure of the pressure of the blood in your arteries at two stages of the heartbeat.

What are the names of the upper and lower blood pressure readings?

Blood pressure is the pressure of what the blood exerts on the walls of the blood vessels. The pressure, that the blood exerts on the wall of the blood vessel, depends on the the heart. When the heart (ventricles) contract, the blood is forced out and into the arteries. Since the blood it forced, the pressure is high. That gives you the higher reading, and it is called SYSTOLE. When the heart relaxes between contractions, blood is not forced into the artieries. But, the elastic walls of the arteries - which were streched by the force of the contraction before -, recoils, applying the pressure to the blood. That way the the blood keep flowing. Since this pressure is less then the pressure what the contraction gives, the reading will be lower. That lower reading is called DIASTOLE.

What is blood pressure and how do you take it?

It is a reading using a blood pressure cuff that gives you two numbers, the top being 'systolic' and the bottom being 'diastolic'. The systolic pressure is achieved when the left ventricle is pumping blood out into the body, the diastolic blood pressure is achieved when the left ventricle is relaxing. A "normal' blood pressure is 120/80. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is over 140 systolic or over 90 diastolic. Disease states may dictate different goals for blood pressure.

They're two numbers that are recored when blood pressure is takenwhat are the two numbers?

A person who is apt in measuring blood pressure using the sphygmomanometer records two numbers. The first one is the systolic blood pressure while the second one is the diastolic blood pressure.

What is the force exerted by blood as it moves through the blood vessels?

This is called blood pressure. Blood pressure is measured in two parts. The first number is the systolic blood pressure and this shows the pressure exerted on artery walls when the ventricles contract and pump blood into the arteries and around the body. The second number is the diastolic blood pressure and this shows the pressure in the arteries when the heart is at rest and refilling ready for the next contraction.Blood pressureThis is known as blood pressure. The pressure high is during systole (when the heart pumps blood to the body) and a pressure low during diastole (when the heart is receiving blood back from the body)This is sometimes referred to as arterial pressure and different measurements are made regarding the arterial pressure such as the mean arterial pressure (MAP).

How does blood pressure effect blood pressure And what number is sount for the high blood pressure . hurry ...?

A blood pressure measures the amount of pressure on your arteries when your heart is pumping and contracting blood. There are two measurements. One is the diastolic. The diastolic is the measurement of the pressure on your arteries when your heart is relaxed. This number should be low, in between 50 and 90. It is the bottom number in the ratio. The systolic measurement is the top number in the ratio. The systolic measurement is the amount of pressure on the arteries when the heart is beating or contracted. This number should be between 100 and 150. The text book normal blood pressure is 120/80=S/D. hope that helps.

What is the medical term meaning measuring blood pressure?

Pulse is measured as the number of times a heart beats per minute.

What do blood pressure readings mean?

The top number in the blood pressure fraction is the Systolic pressure, or the amount of pressure put on the walls of the arteries during the contraction and ejection of blood from the left ventricle. The bottom number is called the Diastolic Pressure and it means the lowest pressure in an artery in the moments between beats when your heart is resting.
