The two main parts of a virus are Protein Coat and Nucleic Acid.

The protein coat completely surrounds the nucleic acid and serves as a protective coating and aids in attachment of the the virus to the host cell.

The nucleic acid can be either Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) or Ribonucleic Acid (RNA).
