There are two basic types of convergent boundary. The first is a subduction zone, which occurs at a collision between two plates carry oceanic crust or one carrying continental and once carrying oceanic crust. In such a collision, one oceanic plate will subduct under the other and sink into the mantle. Such a collision produces volcanoes on the overriding plate and will produce mountain ranges on a continent.

The other type of convergent boundary occurs when two continent collide. These collisions produce high mountains but not volcanoes. No subduction occurs as continental crust is not dense enough to sink into the mantle.

What can form where two plates converge?

When two tectonic plates converge, a subduction zone can form where one plate is pushed beneath the other, creating deep oceanic trenches and volcanic arcs. Another possibility is a collision boundary, where the two plates collide and form mountain ranges due to intense pressure and folding of the Earth's crust.

Yes.

What type of mountain is formed when plates converge?

When plates converge, a fold mountain is formed. This happens when the edges of two tectonic plates push against each other, causing the land to buckle and fold, creating mountain ranges like the Himalayas or the Andes.

Do earthquakes only happen where plates converge?

no, earthquakes mainly happen when two plates crash each other or one plates goes under the other.

What major landform is made when two continental plates converge?

When two continental plates converge, a major landform created is a mountain range. The intense pressure and collision between the plates causes the Earth's crust to uplift, forming large mountain ranges such as the Himalayas or the Alps.
