Magic rings were part of the folklore of many ancient peoples. The Celts wore rings for many reasons, they could be cursed or confer immortality to the soul. They were often made magical through the operation of a magician or through being forged or touched by a god. Rings in the Celtic period were symbols of power and wealth, only the wealthy could afford to own them, and these factors probably conferred magical properties to them in the minds of the ordinary people.
